My ranch has had a white yak breeding program for the past ten years. I started with a few white yaks from the widow of Jerry McRoberts (the first president and one of the founders of IYAK) after Jerry passed. I registered them with IYAK knowing that they were not "full blood" yaks. IYAK registered them as "pure bred" white yaks. Soon thereafter they changed the term to "hybrid" for my white yaks. My goal was to back breed them to the best yak bulls I could find. Then I started another different white yak breeding program after I purchased some white yak bulls from Steven Seagal because I learned that two of these bulls were full blood yaks!! What a wonderful surprise, so I bought some great black DNA yaks and started a full blood white yaks breeding program. Why white yaks? White fiber!! Now we are breeding for the best white fiber we can get out of a yak.
